How defaults improved user efficiency by over 50%
DISCO
DISCO users lacked the ability to save, reuse, and create templates, resulting in time-consuming workarounds and uncertainty around changes. This impacted user experience and could lead to lower satisfaction and customer complaints. Solutions were needed to improve efficiency and control for DISCO's users.

Are templates the answer?
DISCO customers found document production simple but lacked preset options and template creation. Users had to perform manual configurations and were uncertain of the effects of changes. After conducting research, it was clear users needed an easier way to save, personalize, and manage production settings.
Existing Productions settings, including copy from previous feature
Our success criteria focused on efficiency, control, and user feedback. We aimed to reduce template creation time, offer customization options, and provide clear feedback. Our goal was to improve user satisfaction and productivity in the DISCO platform.
We aimed to meet DISCO users' needs by providing easy access to saved settings, allowing preview and modification, and efficient application to productions. This would streamline the document production process.

Emphasis on previewing settings
I designed multiple iterations of templates, inspired by similar products. The goal was to create modals for easy template management and use in productions, improving workflow efficiency for DISCO users.
Design exploration: Agency and saved templates
Templates: Modal, List, and Preview Designs
I explored a modal, list, and preview designs for template creation. The modal design offered a dedicated interface for creating templates, ensuring a streamlined experience. The list design organized saved templates for easy management and access. The preview design allowed users to quickly review template settings before implementation. These designs provided DISCO users with a user-friendly interface for creating, organizing, and previewing customized production templates, optimizing their workflow and productivity.
Saving Your Settings: Flexibility, Default Options, and Cross-Matter Workflows
I explored prioritized saving settings, providing users with flexibility, default options, and improved cross-matter workflows. Users could create and save personalized configurations, while default options and cross-matter functionality streamlined setup and collaboration. These enhancements aimed to enhance settings management, boost productivity, and foster seamless teamwork within DISCO.
Agency Settings: Time-Saving Solution for Common Production Settings
Introducing agency settings seemed like it could be a significant time-saving solution for DISCO users. By incorporating standardized government agency settings, users could leverage predefined configurations, saving hours of manual setup time.

Defaults provide greater value
While designing, we faced difficulties with incorporating templates in isolation. To overcome the complexity, a different team prioritized their global template work. This decision led us to concentrate on delivering features based on valuable feedback received. Our focus shifted towards including agency settings, allowing users to save defaults, and improving the user experience with notifications. These quality-of-life improvements aimed to streamline workflows and enhance user satisfaction within the DISCO platform despite the change in design priorities.
Agency default settings
We integrated agency settings, providing users with predefined configurations that significantly reduced setup time. This feature received positive feedback from users, establishing DISCO as a pioneering ediscovery product in offering agency settings.

Create and manage your default
By allowing users to set and save defaults for their configurations, we improved efficiency and provided a consistent starting point for document productions. This feature empowered users to quickly apply their preferred settings, saving valuable time and enhancing their overall experience within the platform.

Informing users actions
Through a collaborative effort with the design systems team, I partnered to define standardized rules for notifications within Productions and the app as a whole. This implementation offered users clear and timely feedback on production status and applied settings, improving their understanding and reducing uncertainty. By enhancing the overall usability of the application, these notifications contributed to a more informed and efficient workflow for DISCO users.

Currently in testing
The Production Defaults feature achieved a valuable outcome while in build and testing, delivering both substantial time reduction and groundbreaking features. By implementing the ability to save settings, users experienced a drastic reduction of over 50% in the time required to run a production, enhancing overall efficiency and productivity. Additionally, the introduction of agency settings, saving defaults, and the implementation of notifications revolutionized the DISCO platform, providing users with unprecedented capabilities and improving their experience. This project's outcomes not only elevated DISCO as an innovative ediscovery solution but also transformed the way users approach document production, setting a new standard in the industry.
